Former Woolworths chief executive Grant O'Brien has been appointed the new chairman of Tourism Tasmania's board.
Mr O'Brien grew up on the North-West Coast and attended Ulverstone High School before he joined Woolworths as an assistant accountant.
He was appointed chief executive and managing director of the company in 2011 and held the position until 2016.
Tourism Minister Sarah Courtney said Mr O'Brien would replace James Cretan on the Tourism Tasmania board.
Mr Cretan had held the chairman position since 2014.
"I welcome Grant to the role at a time when the industry rebuilds as it emerges from what has been an incredibly challenging period," Ms Courtney said.
Mr O'Brien is also a member of the Tasmanian AFL Taskforce.
