After being knocked to the canvas in round two and surviving a 60-second barrage from his opponent who was trying to finish the fight, Woods worked his way back into the contest over the next eight rounds and easily outpointed his younger opponent.
The 29-year-old Latrobe Boxing Club member secured a unanimous points decision from the three judges at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, convincingly winning the fight 97-92, 98-91 and 97-92 to improve his professional record to seven wins from 11 bouts.
After unexpected hitches with the trip to Queensland and at Friday's weigh-in where Law failed to make the required weight, Woods said he was still buzzing at what had happened as he prepared for the trip back home.
"I was over the moon on Saturday night and only got a couple of hours sleep because I was buzzing and rapt with it all," he said.
"I still haven't got back to every one who sent me a message on my phone or on social media and the response has been unbelievable.
"Here I was getting ready to retire soon and now the whole country is behind me.
"It was a bit of a Cinderella story after I got sat on my backside in round two and had to get back up, but I charged through and came home with the goods.
"There were a lot of obstacles put in front of me for this Australian title and the fact is I had to do it against a middleweight, when the title was at super welterweight division."
