After last-over losses to the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers, the Salliann Beams-coached 'Canes decimated the Melbourne Stars to get a win on the board.

"It's been frustrating because obviously we lost two games very closely, we took it down to the wire having probably not competed well enough," Beams said.

"The key thing for us is just the runs on the board, so I think we've got a great bowling attack that's balanced with pace, swing, control, so we just need to make sure that we put a good total on the board."

With the first 24 matches to be played in Tasmania, five matches in eight days await the Hurricanes, starting with Saturday's 10.15am Invermay Park match-up with the Adelaide Strikers.

The Strikers boast plenty of star players, with Australian talents Tahlia McGrath, Amanda-Jade Wellington and Darcie Brown as well as imports Dane van Niekerk and Laura Woolvaart.

But Brown, who recently represented Australia in the tour against India, is also wary of the Hurricanes and their line-up.

"They've got some really, really good players in their side, Tay [Vlaeminck] is coming in and bowling pretty rapid and they've got a few big hitters as well," Brown said.

"We've got a team meeting later today, so we will make plans around that and hopefully it works out well for us."

Arguably the side's biggest hitter, Rachel Priest comes into the Launceston games as the owner of the WBBL's golden bat, having scored the most runs of the series.

Her explosive innings of 107 not out against the Stars was the first century of WBBL07 as well as the Hurricanes' first ever.

Beams, who has coached Priest for the Tasmanian Tigers and Hurricanes as well as the Trent Rockets in the Hundred competition, spoke highly of her side's captain.

"I think she's a great player, someone who can clear the rope, backs her areas and copes under pressure, so it was a fantastic knock and the first ever for the Hobart Hurricanes to score a century so we are so proud of her."

Despite producing the fourth-highest score in WBBL history, Priest says she remembers little of the knock that saw her hit 10 fours and seven sixes.

"You do kind of get into a zone and I think it only happens every now and then," the New Zealander said.

"I felt like I could pretty much hit the ball anywhere that day which was nice, I wish I could get into that zone a little bit more often but hopefully I'll be able to do it again sometime in the season.

"Obviously I've been playing in the WBBL for a long time now and I hadn't managed to get to three figures yet and obviously it was really special to do at our home ground as well.

"There was definitely a bit of relief there and maybe a bit of surprise [in the celebration] as well."

Also breaking new ground in the dominant Stars victory was 18-year-old all-rounder Ruth Johnston.

Coming on with the game in the balance in the bowling innings, Johnston took 4-8 off her 20 balls to finish it for the Hurricanes, impressing fellow off-spinner Molly Strano.

"She was awesome, she was so composed under pressure and that's her first bowl at this level and to produce that sort of performance was unbelievable," Strano said.

"It's a feather in the cap to the young offie, it was really nice to see her do her thing and I'm sure she's got a big season ahead of her, not only with the ball but with the bat as well."

Strano has been in incredible form since crossing over from the Renegades this season, taking five wickets at 13.2 so far to be leading the WBBL's golden arm alongside Striker Sarah Coyte.

The sole bowler to have taken 100 wickets in the WBBL, Strano has played seven T20 internationals throughout her career.
