Co-Directors of My Build Collective Murray and Stuart Griffiths won the award for best renovation or extension between $200,000 to $400,000 for their extension and interior renovation of a weatherboard house on Clementina Street.

Murray Griffiths said while the brothers have completed more than 50 renovations in their career, the Clementina Street build ranks among the top.

"It's got to be at the top," he said.

"It's up there, not in size, but in detail and how we've combined the old and the new."

Mr Griffiths said the brief the brothers received from the client was to extend the current house with a new and warm extension, while maintaining the charm of the original interior.

He said working with old houses always presents a challenge from a renovation perspective, but was happy with the final product.

"It's a seamless transition," he said. "The continuity that runs through the house was something the owner really wanted.

"[The owner] really wanted to see the garden from the kitchen so she could see the kids play, and we've been able to integrate the outside space with the inside."

He said while form was key in any build, the function of the home also needed to meet the client's expectations and explained that for the growing family creating a warm and inviting space was paramount.

"I recently went back and sat down with the family to see how the house was performing and they said 'we've got half the power bill, but we're twice as warm'," he said.

The award is the second for the brothers who also won in 2018 for a $1 million custom-built stone fishing lodge in the Central Highlands.

MBT chief executive Matthew Pollock said despite delays and supply disruptions, the standard of workmanship on show at the awards was world-class.
