About 10am on September 16, 2019, Megan Dehle allegedly assaulted Lauren Webb by choking her and punching her to the face and head, Crown prosecutor Katie Edwards told the Burnie Supreme Court.
What was in dispute, however, was the allegation that Ms Dehle choked Ms Webb during the brawl, Mr Sullivan said.
Ms Edwards told the court the assault took place in a carpark near the Terry White chemist at the Devonport Fourways.
She told the court Ms Webb pulled up in her car so her daughter could use a nearby public toilet.
Ms Dehle, who was with Ms Webb's ex-partner, approached the car and began assaulting Ms Webb as she exited the car, Ms Edwards told the court.
"Ms Webb has tried to exit the car, but she hasn't been able to fully get out of the car before she was attacked."
Ms Edwards told the jurors the attack included Ms Dehle choking Ms Webb and punching her to the head and face multiple times.
The fight subsided after Ms Webb's teenaged daughter intervened between the two women, Ms Edwards said.
She said the jury would hear evidence during the trial that Ms Webb suffered serious bruising and swelling to her face and a fractured eye socket.
Giving evidence in the trial, Ms Webb told the court she had not been in contact with Ms Dehle in the weeks prior to the assault.
In cross examination, however, Mr Sullivan suggested Ms Webb instigated the brawl and had been threatening Ms Dehle via social media, which she denied.
