Magistrate Sharon Cure pondered for a moment while she considered the best way to approach the situation before deciding the man could appear while wearing a mask.
The Launceston man had broken a drug treatment order and had to face time in prison, but last week the Launceston Magistrates Court decision was delayed while he waited on the results of tests.
The man eventually ended up appearing, but had to wear a mask for the entirety of the proceeding.
Ms Cure ruled on the matter, which would see him serve 15 days in prison before being released to a residential drug treatment facility.
The man embraced a female supporter in the court room before being led into custody.
