Originally scheduled to play the reigning champion Bulls from 10am local time, the match was officially postponed until Wednesday but Cricket Tasmania made the decision to fly home.
Announcing the news in a press release on Tuesday morning, it was described as a decision "not taken lightly".
"While the situation in Queensland hasn't prevented the match from commencing today, a cautious and considered approach is being taken and it is our strong opinion that we are better having our players and staff home as we build a better understanding of the current landscape," the statement read.

"We look forward to playing the Queensland Bulls at the first opportunity.
"We thank Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia for their understanding and flexibility with this match postponement, and we hope that this preventative measure will, with hindsight, not have been required."
The Tigers had been in Queensland, which recorded four locally acquired cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, since last Tuesday, having an extra training session on the Gold Coast.
A 13-man squad was named for the Shield clash, featuring Gabe Bell, Jarrod Freeman, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Lawrence Neil-Smith, Sam Rainbird, Peter Siddle, Jordan Silk, captain Matthew Wade, Charlie Wakim, Tim Ward, Beau Webster and Macalister Wright.
