This year's award will coincide with the Sustainable Living Festival, recognising 10 Tasmanian businesses that have shown a significant commitment to sustainable practices.
Festival co-ordinator Sandy Astill said with such a strong and varied group of industries nominated it would be difficult for the judges to separate the field.
South Launceston hair salon Aspen Hair is one of the businesses in the running.
Salon owner Samantha Crawford said the nomination was the third sustainability award the business had received after the salon introduced sustainable practices.

She said for a small community business to receive recognition for its contribution to sustainability was amazing.
Ms Crawford said the business had been nominated anonymously after it adopted the principles of a circular economy, repurposing the salon's waste into new products like oil booms, wigs and combs.
She said in some cases the products that were created from the 15 kilograms of waste the salon recycled each week often found their way back into the business.
"It completes that closed-loop circle where our waste is recycled and reused and repurposed into products that we can then reuse in the salon," she said.
"Our foil and aluminium get turned back into foil that we purchase and use in the salon and we've got a detangling comb which is actually made out of recycled shampoo bottles."
Ms Crawford said she hoped the nomination would encourage other businesses to look at ways they could incorporate sustainable practices into their business - no matter their size.
The building and construction industry are also represented by Invermay-based company Enviro Slab, nominated for developing the eco-slab, an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional concrete slabs.
Lilydale hospitality and tourism operator Trig Eco Accommodation has also received a nomination for their hotel accommodation made from disused shipping containers.
Brady's Lookout Cider, Daisy Fresh Dry Cleaners, Earth Coterie, Eco Pellets, Environex, Fork n Farm, Ramble Folk and The Trig are also in with a shot of the crowning glory.
