The Trojans entered the game as firm favourites after dropping one game all season but the Devils had been in impressive form recently.
The Devils needed to overturn recent history to defeat the Trojans after being unable to secure a victory over their rivals during the regular season.
Prior to the game, the Trojans had a focus of shutting down the Devils key scorers in Lisa Patterson and Kate Mackrell to ensure they kept the game on their terms.
Patterson (21 points) and Mackrell (11 points) threatened to get off the chain at times in the decider as they shot beautifully from behind the arc, combining for six three-pointers in the game.
However, the Trojans worked hard defensively to ensure very few other Devils' found any scoring success.

The Trojans' found joy in exploiting the space provided by the Devils' defence within the two-point line as they recorded a game-high 24 two-pointers to the Devils' 14.
The Trojans' potency on offence was hardly surprising given they led the league all-season in points made with 1122, which was 211 better than the next-best side.
That was principally led by Ash Mawer (19 points) who made a team-high seven two-pointers to be a key focal point in attack.
The Trojans' Jess Decani (15 points) was also a driving force in the attacking end and was notably cool from the free-throw line to ensure the Trojans got over the line.
Trojans' Jame Todman delivered arguably the play of the night when she drove hard past an unsettled Devils' defence to to lay-up for a classy two-pointer.
Trojans' coach Gelinda Dell took to Facebook to praise her team's tenacity and ability to play their roles within the team system.
The result ensured that the Trojans secured back-to-back titles after claiming the title last year as well.
