A Tasmania Police spokesperson said they awoke the woman living at the address and helped her and the dogs to safety.
"Police assisted a neighbour using a garden hose to suppress the fire until units from the Tasmania Fire Service arrived and extinguished the fire," the spokesperson said.
Investigations into the cause of the fire will continue today, but the damages amounted to $40,000.
"The house suffered smoke damage throughout the house and water damage to the front bedroom," the spokesperson said.
The home was fitted with working smoke alarms.
