"We are beyond thrilled to welcome Bell back to the Princess to connect with Northern Tasmanian audiences," Theatre North programs manager Stuart Loone said.

"This is will be a wonderful night filled with magic and mirth and, particularly in the current climate, we know that there will be something really special about it."

This version of the play is directed by Bell Shakespeare's artistic director Peter Evans, and tours through the Northern Territory and Queensland before heading to Tasmania.

"As Australia's national theatre company, we cannot wait to return to touring and couldn't think of a better play than A Midsummer Night's Dream to really celebrate the joy and magic of live theatre," he said.

"It's always a thrill to travel to audiences across the country and it's a privilege to be sharing this production with Australians in 2021."

The national tour will be the first for the production company for more than a year due to COVID-19.

"This production wasn't in our original program, but when Bell Shakespeare refocused their tour, there was an opportunity to see if they had a suitable opening in their schedule, and we're so excited they could accommodate a Launceston performance," Mr Loone said.

The performance will star Jane Montgomery Griffiths as Bottom and Egeus, and Ella Prince will play Puck. The four lovers - Demetrius, Hermia, Helena, and Lysander - will be portrayed by Michael C. Howlett, Abbie-lee Lewis, Gabrielle Scawthorn, and Jacob Warner respectively.

Kyle Morrison appears as Oberon and Theseus, and Imogen Page will perform Titania and Hippolyta.

A Midsummer Night's Dream will play at the Princess Theatre on September 24. Tickets are available at theatrenorth.com.au.
