A home has been destroyed and a man is in hospital after a fire ripped through a West Launceston home on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews responded to multiple triple zero calls about 12.15pm, arriving to find the Denison Grove home fully alight.
Senior station officer David Casteller said it took crews about half an hour to bring the fire under control, with the cost of damages estimated at more than $500,000.
It is understood a man, believed to be an occupant of the home, was injured while trying to extinguish the fire.
"He sustained a cut to his shoulder, and some smoke inhalation," Officer Casteller.
"It is my understanding he was inside the house when the fire started, and then he has attempted to go back in while the fire was burning.
"The structure has sustained quite substantial damage ... it's estimated around half a million dollars."
The man remains in a stable condition at Launceston General Hospital, where it's expected he will be admitted for a period of observation.
Fire investigators were expected to remain at the scene on Tuesday afternoon to help determine the cause of the fire.
Officer Casteller said it was not yet known if there were any suspicious circumstances, but warned home owners to be vigilant.
"It's not advisable for people to enter a burning structure, it is very dangerous," he said.
"The occupant on this occasion has sustained some injuries by re-entering the structure.
"It's a hot, smoky, dangerous environment.
"So it's not advisable for people to be re-entering burning structure."
