The Queechy Penguins pair have been a part of numerous state junior sides but get to experience their senior promotion together.
Both were contacted by coach, 2008 Olympian Luke Doerner, with McRobbie's call taken during a day at Launceston College.
"It was in my lunch break and he called me and said I was a part of the extended team and I was really excited, I almost cried at school which would have been a little bit embarrassing," she said.
"I didn't realise that I would have this opportunity at all.
"I just went for the opportunity of actually trialling for it but I never, ever thought I would continue on and be in the extended 10.
"Hopefully at some point [I can] make it into the 20 and one day into the Tigers team."
Twenty players were named in men's and women's Tigers squads, with an 10 additional players named in the extended training squad, including Northern GNL players McRobbie, Cooper and Kurt Budgeon.
Out of those players, 14 are named to play each week, with the extended squad being called upon should injury or performance become an issue.
McRobbie was thrilled to get the opportunity alongside Cooper, with the pair playing in Tamar Churinga's 2020 under-19 premiership side as well as for the Penguins in GNL.
"Lucy and I often travel down to Hobart [and] every weekend in GNL we travel to our away games together," she said.
"To be able to do this with her just makes it even more special to have that person with you doing it as well."
Having played at the GNL level for several seasons now, 18-year-old McRobbie is enjoying a career-best year, scoring 19 of the Penguins' 39 goals.
The prominent scorer puts this down to having an extra year of experience.
"I think I'm gelling a lot with my team, as well as putting in a little bit of extra effort here and there - just getting the stick out once a day for five minutes and going for extra hitting sessions."
Cooper was equally as excited to have received her phone call when she was at home.
"It's really good that, even though I haven't made the actual full squad, I'm still in the training squad because I will be able to train and pick up the skills of the higher players and train at a high intensity which is always good," she said.
While Budgeon is the sole GNL representative in the men's squad, City Marians and West Devonport also have two players apiece with Zayna Jackson, Jemma Kenworthy, Madison Clark and Isabelle Sharman picked.
"I've got a couple of friends from the North-West that [have been named and] we've been training together, so I've known those girls for ages and it's really good that we get to share the experience and training with them," Cooper said.
