They may sometimes go unnoticed but the achievements of people with disabilities or working in the disability sector will be centre stage at the Tasmanian Disability Festival.

The festival is looking for nominations across 12 categories including excellence in innovation, outstanding volunteer of the year and lifetime achievement.

Event director Laura Manion said that the festival was an important part of recognising the disability community.
"The Tasmanian Disability Festival awards have been created to highlight the outstanding contribution individuals, community groups and organisations are making to the lives of people with disability and the sector," she said.
"We are excited to showcase amazing innovations and advocacy that are happening in our community that could benefit from more exposure."
The popular community event is supported by the Hawthorn Football Club, IGA, City of Launceston Council, Lifetime Homes Tasmania, TasWater, Scorpion Business Services, Carer Solutions Australia, St Michaels Training and Mosaic Support Services.
Ms Manion said the awards would help recognise the valuable efforts of those in the Tasmanian disability sector.
"By recognising the community achievement at these awards we are hopeful that more organisations and individuals from all walks of life realise they could make a significant impact to people with disability through inclusive and accessible actions," she said.
