"I will be speaking to Gill McLachlan later this week," he said, noting he expected the government would soon receive a copy of the report.

"I would hope that the report would be publicly available as soon as possible.

"I would hope based on the very strong position we outlined in our business case, and the very positive feedback that Mr Carter received when he was here in the state earlier this year, that the report would be positive in terms of Tasmania's progression to a licence."

Mr Gutwein, who also said on Wednesday "we should have a team and I believe we will get a team", said the report would give clarity over future contracts the government held with Hawthorn and North Melbourne.

The government's contracts with those two clubs are set to expire at the end of the year.

Tasmanian AFL Taskforce members are also waiting to get their hands on Carter's review.

Taskforce member Grant O'Brien on Wednesday noting a feeling of excitement that the team push was now at this stage and the momentum that was being created by this next step.

The review was set to be tabled and debated by the commission over two days [Wednesday and Thursday] before being handed on to club presidents.

SEN chief reporter Sam Edmund on Wednesday told the Melbourne radio station that "Tasmania's bid for an AFL team is now a matter of when and not if.

"Colin Carter's review is really positive...they are really confident they'll get the timeline they have been after for so long."

The latest chapter in the state's long-held desire for representation in the national competition comes with UTAS Stadium set host a sellout clash between Hawthorn and Collingwood on Sunday, in what will be the Magpies first match in the state for premiership points.

Burnie Dockers premiership player and Collingwood key forward Brody Mihocek described it as exciting to see that the commission was looking into the review.

"I'm all for this,'' he said.

"Ever since you since you were kid you always did wonder why there was no Tassie team and I am all for it and I hope it does happen sooner rather than later.

"I think it would be good for everyone in Tassie and for kids out there to know there is an extra footy team out there to go for and I think it would spark a lot of young kids to strive to make the Tassie team.

"I really do hope it happens sooner rather than later."

Depending on the timing of any potential team's entry, Mihocek admitted it would be nice to have the chance to represent his state when his time at Collingwood eventually comes to an end.

Mihocek has played 77 games since being drafted by Collingwood in the 2017 rookie draft.
