TASMANIA'S clean green brand is under serious threat, time and time again.

Our state government seems intent on destroying the very iconic pristine and distinct advantages Tasmania has over and above so much of the rest of the world.

We're constantly told that Tasmania's forestry and mining practices are the world's best practice, yet when we read about best practices around the world and compare them with Tasmania's practices, it's quite easy to see that we're being told absolute lies and constantly misled and misinformed by government ministers.

At this very moment, the largest intact temperate rainforest in Australia, the second largest in the world is under serious threat from Chinese owned MMG Rosebery mines waste expansion. I can't believe the world's best practice is to clear hundreds of hectares of rainforest to store waste because MMG's existing waste dams are already nearly full.

Do we keep building more and more waste dams as each one fills up?

I researched the world's best practice, only took a moment, and it seems making the waste into a paste and depositing it back down into the old mine shafts is a much sounder and responsible way to manage mine waste. Why on earth isn't this best practice being practised here in Tasmania?

JESS Fox gave a gold-medal interview after earning a bronze medal in the women's canoe slalom at the Tokyo Olympics.

Despite having the fastest run, her penalties relegated her to third place, shattering her dream of winning an elusive gold medal.

Fox rightly expressed her disappointment but was not mired in it, choosing rather to acknowledge the success of her German friend, Ricarda Funk, who claimed the gold medal. Her upbeat attitude on the podium provided a wonderful example of true Olympic sportsmanship. The true gold-plated winners are those, like Fox, who give their best and can accept the outcome of their efforts realistically and graciously.

IN response to Ian O'Neil (The Examiner, July 31) in saying flying the two Australian flags Aboriginal and Australian at public buildings is only going to further divide our country and does not promote Australia as one nation, I feel impelled to ask could they not be looked upon differently as in perhaps Australia could be looked upon as a united country? I do not object to anything that can further create a harmonious country.

After all, are we not all Australians under different heritages? The boy scouts are not a race of people but rather an organisation so really cannot be referred to in the same category, can they? I respect your opinion but can also see the upside if the two flags further create unity.

THERE is a saying that you can't fix stupid, turns out you can't quarantine it either.

THE federal government needs to face facts. As with those who deliberately light bushfires, there are also certain individuals who take pleasure in deliberately spreading this virus, the point is no one in power will acknowledge that these vermin exist, but they do. One only has to follow some social media such as Facebook, Tik Tok, etc to know they exist. NSW handled the cruise ship problem admirably, but the recent blatant rally showed the difficulty in dealing with brain dead individuals who are willing to risk the lives of their fellow Aussies.

I WAS in quarantine for two weeks, having been in a high-risk area whilst in Adelaide.

Tas Health rang me each and every day, asking how I was, did I need anything or did I need to speak to someone regarding my mental health. I realise that these people get paid to do this but each and everyone that called me deserves a vote of thanks.

They were kind, pleasant and happy to have a little chat. When I thanked them, they were so happy to be acknowledged and said that that didn't happen too often. So, thanks to Tas Health for what you are doing.

IT appears to me that money talks when it comes to getting into Tasmania. Why is it that the AFL can bring Victorian teams in to play at York Park, yet ordinary citizens have to jump through so many hoops to get here?

Do the teams have to go through the same cattle race as everybody else does at the airport, or do they get off the plane and straight onto a bus to be whisked away.

Do they have to have a G2G pass?

It seems to me that Victoria and the AFL along with the premier are hell bent on bringing COVID-19 into the state.

If it is so safe to bring them here, why do patrons have to wear masks at the game?

I CAN'T believe Tasmania is allowing Victorians into the state so soon after their lockdown. We have had a wonderful run of being COVID-19 free and just one visitor who is infected with covid can turn Tasmania into the disaster NSW is. The government needs to reconsider their decision urgently.
