Police are investigating a serious crash overnight that left a Richmond man in a critical condition.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said it is believed the driver was travelling along Middle Tea Tree Road at Richmond when he lost control of the car.
The 22-year-old man crashed into a tree on the opposite side of the road about 10.30pm.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The police spokesperson said investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
