INDICATOR BUGBEARS
THANK you Harry Murtough (Tasmania's aversion to indicating, The Examiner, July 25). One of my big bugbears.

I harp on to my family about checking indicators as I believe a lot of major crashes are caused by people who believe they have indicated an intention to turn, but if following traffic don't see a blinker they cannot react quickly enough.
The amount of times you meet a vehicle indicating left when they are turning right is another common error.
Please RACT can you set up an occasional check in centre - I know how many mistakes they can find.
Police would be run off their feet if they just manned the intersection of Hobart Road, Risely or Innocent streets alone.

JOKE OLYMPICS
WHAT a joke the Olympics have become with activities like half-court basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, table tennis, BMX and mountain bike riding, golf, cycling, synchronised swimming, beach volleyball, handball, hockey, rugby, skateboarding and tennis in the competition.
What next? Tiddlywinks, chess, bowls, car racing, surfing, or maybe skipping, dolls, puppeteering or texting?
Only real athletes and only amateurs used to be allowed, now they're all professionals playing games.
It's all about the money and very boring.

CHURCH OUTREACH WORK
IT IS strange for an atheist to write in support of a church, but I am finding the impending sale of the City Baptist Church quite sad.
It isn't just because of the beautiful buildings and their heritage, all of which will hopefully remain intact.
Rather, it's because I have come to know Pastor Jeff McKinnon and certain members of his congregation.
The work they do in Launceston is phenomenal.
They reach out to the homeless, the hungry and those in need of emotional sustenance, while also providing support to people who have arrived from foreign countries.
Pastor Jeff is unique among all the Christian leaders I have encountered.
His wisdom, manner and attitude have earned him the utmost respect of all those who have had dealings with him.
A church is much more than its surroundings. No matter where the City Baptist eventually settles, our community will benefit from its excellent outreach work.

WOOD HEATER PROBLEMS
I HAVE COPD and have to put up with the smell of wood heater smoke every winter.
It's that bad in George Town that when I sleep at night I smell wood heater smoke from outside and it comes inside the house.
My carer, when he's asleep at night, I hear him coughing.
It's just really bad, the smell of it.
When I we go outside it is so bad that I want to go back inside.
There's a lot of people in George Town with breathing problems, and a lot of them have asthma as well as COPD problems.
I would like to see change with the wood heater problems be resolved ASAP.

DISAPPOINTED AND DIGUSTED
WHAT an absolute disgusting display of stupidity by Australians in Sydney.
Two thousand know-alls, selfishly putting their interest above the law and safety of the entire country.
Their actions could without question start a super spot of infections and threaten us all.
It is such a shame that a majority of the leading countries of the world have an overabundance of these dangerous idiots.
Like America and their storming of their centre of government.
And numerous outbreaks of these self opinionated minorities throughout the world.
Inconsiderate fools, crying freedom, thinking their interests are the only ones that matter.
They defy the logic of those who have spent their entire lives in studies of these dangerous killing viruses.
And trying their hardest to make us safe.
It was a sad day for Australia and I sincerely hope they feel the full force of the law as their reward.
This is the only excuse I would accept the overcrowding of our jails to teach them a much needed lesson.
The law is for all.
Disappointed, disgusted and ashamed.

PANDEMIC STRATEGY SUPPORT
PUBLIC health versus economic health has recently been raised by some board members of Australian public companies and selected politicians from various cabals regarding recent coronavirus pandemic outbreaks.
Reported JobKeeper payments of $4.6 billion given to businesses that increased their profit during the height of the pandemic last year is conveniently forgotten.
If hospitals are plunged into crisis regarding an increase of COVID-19 admissions, the societal effect may be to withdraw spending, placing the economy into one of a continual recession/depression?
With an upcoming federal election, it may be pertinent to ask candidates which pandemic strategy is supported by their party, that is, people's lives over superficial economic theory or vice versa?
