The identities of the two Victorian people killed in Monday's horror Midland Highway crash are yet to be released as police continue the identification process.

Part of the process involved identifying next of kin, which it was understood was still being carried out as of Wednesday evening.
It was revealed on Tuesday morning the two victims were from Victoria.

They were travelling north towards Campbell Town when their car and a truck collided, instantly killing them both.
Their deaths brought the state's road toll to 20 and prompted Tasmania Police Assistant Commissioner Jonathan Higgins to plead with road users to drive to conditions and maintain concentration when behind the wheel.
"You've got to drive to the conditions, you can't expect just to be pulled over by a police officer. You need to actually slow down. You will get there," he said.
"People need to slow down [in difficult conditions]. You've got to realise that you may not be able to do 100 kilometres an hour on certain roads if it's icy. You need to slow down if it's raining or it's dark."
At the same time in 2020 the road toll sat at 18.
