The program offers three separate skill sets at a discounted price, to promote education and entry into the field - including forklift operation, first aid and chemical skills.

A statement of attainment and credit towards a Certificate II or III in Agriculture is offered at the end, with the skills attractive to prospective employers, according to Hillwood Berries farm manager Marcus Dornauf.

"It'll be great to see this happening, because these are a lot of skills we have to train all our staff up to do, so for someone to come in with the forklift license or chemical certificate is really beneficial to our business," he said.

"It will give those people that do the course a leg up on the others that haven't got them, because they are requirements for most farms these days."

TasTAFE industry relationships and business growth manager Troy Robbins said it was a way to make more people job ready.

"We've been able to develop the skill sets, make sure the training is relevant, so that people can enter a training pathway and know that they're going to have skills that employers need," he said.

"It is a sector where we know there is demand, there's seasonal demand, and this is aimed at trying to make it easy for people to look at a career, or at least get a taste for a career, in the agriculture sector."

Skills, Training and Workforce Development Minister Sarah Courtney said the program, which is a partnership between TasTAFE and Fruit Growers Tasmania, aimed to upskill and reskill Tasmanians young and old.

"What we're doing through this is subsidising a range of entry level skill sets that allows people to get practical experience so they can come and work at a place like [Hillwood Berries]," she said.

"I'm really excited about the flexibility of this scheme, it's open for anyone to be able to come and apply, there are a range of subsidies available depending on people's circumstances."
