A proposal for a Launceston Good Guys store was first lodged in early 2020, with the development then estimated at a cost of $5 million, creating 98 parking spaces, and 25 jobs for locals.
The development application for the big box retailer received four submissions against it, with concerns over additional traffic movements in the area - worried a predicted 437 extra vehicle movements to the store each day would contribute to congestion - but it was approved by the City of Launceston in August last year.
Development has been underway at the Invermay site since, with the wait finally over - the store, located at 25-35 Goderich Street Invermay, is set to open this week - with the company "determined to set new standards for retailing excellence."
The Good Guys Launceston store executive manager Jason Sharpe said locals have embraced the opportunity to continue their retail career at the store.
"We've been overwhelmed with the support as we gear up to our big opening in July," he said.
"It's a very exciting time for me and the locals who have joined The Good Guys team."
The store is set to offer a large range of household appliances.
Mr Sharpe said customers can expect to see a "massive range" of the latest products from the biggest brands.
"We can't wait to showcase our brand-new store and introduce our new team of Good Guys, who are always ready to help," he said.
"We want locals to enjoy an exceptional retail experience."
The project has created more than 30 jobs.
"We have assembled the best team and over the coming weeks we will finalise training ready for our big opening here in Launceston," Mr Sharpe said.
It's anticipated the store will be in direct competition with nearby retailers JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman.
It's the state's second store, with the first at Moonah.
