Bookfest volunteer David Howick said it was great to see a strong turnout to the event.
"The most beautiful thing is to see kids with books ... they come out looking at their books and take them home, it's wonderful," he said.
Mr Howick said books still had a magic to them even in an era of smartphones.
"What makes me a book man, is imagination ... when I read for instance The Battle of Waterloo, I am taken there and I follow the battle in my head and I become part of it," he said.

After helping at the past eight Bookfest events, Mr Howick is excited to see the event return next year.
"Last year, we didn't have a bookfest so we had two years of stock, next year we have one year of stock but it will definitely be on."
