From humble beginning in the back room of the old Fresh Cafe in Charles street, Fresh Comedy has grown to become a fixture of Tasmania's arts scene.

It was here that international comedy sensation Hannah Gadsby began her career.

"We have some wonderful memories of that space at the back of Fresh Cafe. There were some really special shows," Fresh Comedy Host Stewart Bell said.

"We can't believe that Hannah Gadsby used to do shows with us there for 80 people."

The birthday gala will feature comedy talent such as Celia Pacquola, Frank Woodley, Tony Martin and Michelle Brasier.

After COVID-19 restrictions prevented a gala last year, the team at Fresh Comedy was determined to have a big event this year.

"We're really proud of the lineup we've assembled, which includes two of our favourite headliners over the years and two we've never brought to Tassie before, which is exciting."

The big names will be supported by up and coming Tasmanian talent, something Mr Bell believes is essential in cultivating the local comedy scene.
