The 33-year-old mother-of-one, who was part of two gold medal triumphs at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, had been shortlisted along with four other candidates for the position under national coach Gary Willis.
The appointment was welcome news to Van Asch, who has enjoyed a seven-year tenure as chief executive of Bowls Tasmania and was ecstatic to be undertaking a new national position.
"I'm really excited to come on board, the high performance program is an area that I'm incredibly passionate about, so very fortunate to be able to work in it," she said.
"I've always thought that I'm so lucky to have this job as CEO of Bowls Tas because Tassie bowls is something I'm so passionate about, and the one thing that trumps that is my passion for Australian bowls.
"Everyone knows how much I adore the Jackaroos and I love being a part of the team as a player, I've seen the program flourish over the past 10 years and it is exciting that I can be a part of helping it progress to the next level."
Bowls Australia reported the appointment of the "veteran Australian Jackaroo" on its website.
It said the selection panel deemed her experience in and out of the high performance and pathway system, vision for the program's future, internal values and ability to foster and harness relationships as clear strengths that set her apart from the competition.
Van Asch has donned the green and gold on 264 occasions and gained sports management and business skills through her state role.
Bowls Australia chief executive Neil Dalrymple said Van Asch would bring an integral level of professionalism and knowledge to the role.
"Rebecca demonstrated a strong vision for the HP program, and her excellent communication skills, strong values, together with her extensive experience in administration and being a strong relationship builder were well articulated," Dalrymple said.
"She has achieved a great deal as the CEO of Bowls Tasmania, demonstrating her skills both as a leader and a professional administrator, and it's evident that her career aspirations are to build a long-term career in bowls administration, which is undoubtedly a real passion of hers."
He added: "Rebecca is a very driven and determined person, she doesn't like to lose and collectively the panel knew that she would carry these traits through to the role."
