A new police station is just six months away, with construction of the Longford building well underway.
Despite some delays with building materials, the project has hit the halfway mark, and the station was expected to be open by Christmas.
Deloraine Division Inspector Scott Flude, who will relocate from his office at Deloraine to the new station, has been involved in the project since its conception.
And it was the first time in his more than four decades on the force that he had seen a new police facility built in the state.

With 76 rooms in the building, the space will also allow some resources to be diverted from the overloaded Launceston headquarters.
"We will have a major incident room here, we have one in town, but we will be able to run major incidents from this area as well," Inspector Flude said.
"Most of the major highways in Tasmania are in this division too, so we could look at putting a traffic contingent out here to patrol the country roads.
"We don't know how that all looks at this stage, but there is a lot of potential.
"It just gives us greater flexibility."
While the site would initially host police, Inspector Flude said it also had the potential to become an emergency services hub down the track, with space on the block to accommodate Ambulance Tasmania, and Tasmania Fire Service.
VOS construction site manager Dylan Walker said it was a substantial project, and had seen about 15 workers on the site daily since February.
"That will ramp up to about 30 to 40 in the next four to six weeks. We are looking to get the roof on in the next couple of months, and then we will move onto the internal fit out stage," he said.
The new station, which was a 2018 state election commitment, will be on the corner of Cressy Road and Peel Street in Longford.
