People had raced to the Ticketmaster website on Thursday morning to score themselves a seat at the blockbuster match between Hawthorn and Essendon on Sunday.
General public tickets officially sold out within an hour of being released. However, there will be a secondary release of tickets on Saturday for those desperately wanting to attend.
Wayne Ballard, who wrote to The Examiner, said he was on the Ticketmaster site at 10am sharp, but could not even buy one ticket.
"I was hoping to take a family of six. I even tried to cut it to four, but there was nothing available anywhere - not even standing," he said.
Hawthorn fans had first dibs with ticket sales opening yesterday morning while Bombers fans had to anxiously wait until 3pm until they could secure their tickets for the first Essendon game in Tasmania this century.
Prior to AFL announcing the game would be played in Launceston, Essendon had just over 2000 Tasmanian members. Within 48 hours that number had increased by nearly 400.
And although Hawthorn already had a strong supporter base in Northern Tasmania, their admin team was inundated with Tasmanians wanting to sign up.
As a result their Tasmanian membership numbers climbed above 7500, surpassing the 2020 cohort.
In the frantic scrap for tickets, unauthorised ticket sellers jumped at the chance to catch eager punters off guard.

Tickets from The Ticket Merchant were being advertised for as much as $190 prior to tickets even going on sale.
The only authorised ticket agent for the Hawthorn and Essendon game is Ticketmaster.
