Talk of war
I HAVE been a loyal Liberal supporter all my life, since I was able to vote, and never have I been so disappointed to hear a minister openly talk about a war with China. What is Peter Dutton doing? Has he lost his sense of perspective?

He has betrayed the safety of every Australian man, woman and child. Australia's 26 million against 1.5 billion and one of us has a nuclear arsenal. To even consider this deviating path is preposterous. With all my heart I sincerely hope he is talking about a trade war.
This is not the first time politicians and leading diplomats have stupidly mentioned the word "war", (as in military conflict), in today's environment it is a path we should never ever contemplate. Have we learned nothing since World War II? It would be like a chihuahua dog attacking 2000 rottweilers.
With the problems facing us with robo-debt and the rape controversy surely we have enough on our plate without airhead remarks of stupidity.
Thank heavens we are still part of the commonwealth and hopefully the UK will come to protect us from the consequences of our rhetoric. If we cannot amicably negotiate with China, then we should bite the bullet and divorce all contact and trade, and look for other markets, and join other larger countries with a nuclear arsenal to voice our grievances, if required.
Peter Doddy, Trevallyn.
Refugees
YES, Mr Morrison we do have rules and regulations, but these people have been in detention long enough. If you haven't been able to make a decision in that time why?
So what now, deport the parents and leave the two Australian children here, or are you the caring father you are going to deport the children born in this country? What an absolute disgrace and the world is watching.
Doreen Baker, West Launceston.

Artful reminder
THE upside-down, Mona red crosses are an excellent reminder that here, in the antipodes, our caesars have developed brutal and effective deterrents to discourage refugees and asylum seekers from entering Australia.
A young family is already experiencing the wrath of an administration that has washed its hands of any shred of compassion and empathy.
Ed Sianski, West Moonah.
Lake Leake Road pitfalls
THE Lake Leake Road detour for motorists who normally travel to Hobart via the Prosser Gorge, Orford, may be unaware of possible fog, ice, snow and abundant wildlife, especially in the dark winter months of a Tasmanian winter. The absence of passing lanes has always been a perennial problem for the vital link road between the Midland and Tasman Highways, which may have been previously rectified if located within the electorates of Braddon or Bass?
Kenneth Gregson, Swansea.
New leadership
WELL, surprise surprise, Labor party appointed their number one puppet. Sorry, I mean favourite as their leader David O'Byrne. But he is not even the favourite Labor politician in his electorate, being recently out-polled by the man they tried to block from even being a candidate. Same old Labor, always has been, always will be.
