Travel restrictions to Tasmania will remain in force for people in metropolitan Melbourne until at least next week, the Health Department has confirmed.

The announcement comes ahead of Sunday's historic match between Hawthorn and Essendon at UTAS Stadium, a match between North Melbourne and Brisbane at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, and Dark MOFO which gets underway today.
On Tuesday Premier Peter Gutwein said he had sought clarity from Public Health over whether border restrictions in place with metropolitan Melbourne would be relaxed before the weekend.
However, in a statement the Health Department confirmed while its decision would be reviewed Friday, restrictions will stay until at least Monday.
It means anyone who is, or has recently been, in the metropolitan Melbourne area will not be permitted to enter Tasmania, unless approved by the Deputy State Controller.
"With major events scheduled for Tasmania this week, including Dark Mofo and AFL games, advice regarding ongoing restrictions is being provided to give people certainty," the statement read.
"Restrictions have been removed from people coming to Tasmania from regional Victoria provided they have not been at a high-risk premises and transit directly to their departure point and do not spend time in metropolitan Melbourne."
Victoria recorded three new locally acquired COVID-19 cases overnight.
The Victorian Health Department confirmed five new local COVID-19 cases were recorded in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning, two of which had already been announced.
A number of additional high-risk premises have been identified in Victoria following thorough tracing of the movements of recent confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Anyone now in Tasmania who was in Victoria since 18 May should check this updated list to ensure they were not at any high-risk premises at the specified dates and times.
If anyone was at any of the listed premises at the specified date and time, they should immediately self-isolate and contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 for further advice.
Anyone in Tasmania with symptoms of a cold or flu should get tested for COVID-19. Testing for COVID-19 gives public health authorities the best chance of detecting cases early enough to prevent an outbreak.
