A woman has been charged over an armed carjacking overnight in West Launceston.

The 27-year-old from Rocherlea was taken into custody after police searched the suburb following reports a car had been stolen from its owner in Granville Street on Tuesday night.

Initial reports suggested two people wearing masks had been involved in the incident, with police still searching for a man on Wednesday morning.
The victim of the carjacking was not physically injured, and his car was found a short time later on Pedder Street at South Launceston.
The accused woman has been charged with aggravated carjacking and aggravated armed robbery, and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court later this morning.
It was understood a weapon was used, but police were yet to release the details.
