The Launceston TSLW premiership player on Thursday announced her retirement after two years at the highest level, one with the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos and one with Collingwood.

Her knee issues stopped her from playing an AFLW game in the black and white and add to the two games she played for the Kangaroos, which included one in her home city against Greater Western Sydney in 2020.

"Not the way that I wanted to end my career but after years of continuous knee injuries, it just wasn't meant to be,'' the 24-year-old posted on Instagram.

"From the people I've met, to the clubs I've been part of and the places football has taken me I will forever be grateful.

"From my first game at Launceston, to North Melbourne and my final days at Collingwood, I want to thank everyone who has supported me on my journey. For believing in me and shaping me to be the person I am today.

"It's time to listen to my body, hang up the boots and focus on looking after myself.

"I will always love you football."

Green was originally the 79^th pick in the 2019 national draft before being traded to Collingwood for pick 40 the next year.

"The club thanks Abbey for her resilience in what would have been a challenging season," Collingwood's general manager of women's sport Jane Woodlands-Thompson said.

"We wish Abbey all the very best with her future endeavours."
