New Roo Lachie Young is feeling quite at home at North Melbourne

The 22-year-old made the move from the Western Bulldogs to North Melbourne during last year's trade period for one specific reason, for more opportunities at senior level after just eight games in two years at Whitten Oval.

For Young, it certainly has been a case of mission accomplished having featured in all 11 of North Melbourne's outings this season, playing roles at half-back, on a wing and in the middle.

"It has been really good since coming over from the Bulldogs as it has been a pretty easy transition across with both clubs having a pretty young demographic,'' he said.

"I'm still learning and taking it each week at a time. My goals coming in were to play as much, if not all, senior footy and nail down a spot in the 22 each week, which I have done and is something I am quite proud of.

"So I would say I have met my pre-season expectations, but I am definitely not satisfied yet."

The brother of Fremantle's Hayden Young was full of praise for the impact that coach David Noble has had on him in such a short space of time.

"He is an experienced head, and obviously has had a lot of experience in football being at Adelaide and Brisbane when they have gone through tough times and brought them up to premiership contention,'' he said of the Tasmanian.

"He has got us on the right path and we are really driven, and while the wins and losses probably don't show it at the moment we definitely are going in the right direction.

"He is pretty honest as well and tells you what you are doing well and what you need to improve on and there is no sugar coating or anything like that, which is what I need so early in my career as it keeps me on the right path as there is always something you can improve on.

"He has been really clear with me what my role is week-in-week-out and as long as I can nail that he has been happy with my progress."

Young has also had the chance to play alongside North Launceston product Tarryn Thomas, who he described as an "awesome addition to our midfield".

"Getting him up and around the ball that really adds some speed and excitement with Ben Cunnington and Jy Simpkin on the inside, so to have Tarryn on the outside using his speed and skill has been really good,'' he said.

Young and his North Melbourne teammates return to Hobart's Blundstone Arena on Sunday to host Greater Western Sydney.

It will be the third time Young has had the chance to play in Tasmania with earlier contests against Melbourne in Hobart and Hawthorn in Launceston.

"It was really awesome,'' he said of his first Tasmanian matches.

"I'd never played in Tasmania, but it was really good to get down there as it was a really great atmosphere, especially in Hobart where we have the North faithful down in Tassie.

"We actually take a real advantage out of that and we enjoy going down there and we know whoever is coming down there to play us we will make sure they have a hard day."

He acknowledged the 10^th placed Giants would not be an easy assignment for the 18^th placed Roos.

"The Giants are a pretty exciting team, we know that,'' he said.

"It is won in and around the ball with them as their midfield is quite strong so that is where it is going to be won and lost on the weekend.

"They also have some dangerous forwards, so if we can nullify their forwards and win the battle in the midfield, that's where it will be won and lost on the weekend, especially down in Tassie where it could be wet and windy."

He said the COVID-19 related protocols in place for the team, which involve flying in and out on the day on a chartered flight, was something the players would take in their stride.
