We have a rail infrastructure in place that connects with the North Esk River.
Build a barge with an excavator on it and several barges with bins and we could send it to Hobart. What we need to do is change the old guard and bring people with commonsense.
Fixing this river needs people with vision who will go outside the square and work with nature.
It is a simple solution but being made hard by the people milking the system.

Transgender healthcare
IT IS deeply concerning to see that "Tasmanian healthcare practitioners are struggling to provide inclusive and affirming care to transgender people", according to a new study by Dr Ruby Grant (The Examiner, June 3).
Tasmania has the nation's best laws when it comes to recognising trans and gender diverse people and protecting them from discrimination.
Our government has a duty to ensure the letter and spirit of these laws are carried into everyday life, including health care.
As Dr Grant found, the solution is more training so our health care workers have the skills and knowledge they need to treat everyone with equal respect and equally professional care.
We call on the state government to make more funds available to ensure trans and gender diverse Tasmanians have the same access to health care as other Tasmanians.

Only in the US
I LOVED Jack Sonneman's piece comparing the salaries of our Premiers to the US President (The Examiner, June 3).
Where to start?
The combined campaign funding for Joe Biden and Donald Trump in 2020 was estimated to be 1.3 billion.
Donald Trump's net worth during office was estimated to be $2.5 billion.
At least in this country you do not need extreme wealth to run for public office.
On the matter of senate representation Mr Sonneman claims that "America seems to be able to function with only two per state".
Heaven forbid that we ever sink to the current standard of American Senators - Republican senators in particular.
Mr Sonneman is essentially mounting a case for a smaller government.
The current total number of deaths from COVID in the US stands at 595,000.
This is what can happen when a democracy forgets that it is there to protect its people and not its President and a flawed Neo Liberal Agenda.

Vaccine venue
OBVIOUSLY immunisation would have been infinitely easier had the drug been able to be administered orally.
This not being the case, the best way to achieve total immunisation is to place stalls where all of us go.
Supermarkets - which exist everywhere throughout the entire country.
I now believe that the government needs to bite the bullet and make it compulsory, as with bike helmets, seat belts, etc which also do not guarantee that you won't die.
Don Davey, Launceston.
AFL advice
CAN someone please explain why we would wish to listen to the advice of Eddie McGuire about anything Tasmania might want to do regarding AFL, surely there are others more suitable to advise us?
Delia Ratcliff, Launceston.
Budget consultation
IT WAS reported that only two people made submissions to the Launceston Council consultation process to discern what residents would like to see in the 2021-2022 budget (The Examiner, June 1 and 4).
Only two people made submissions: one about parking and one about a park.
That's a very low participation rate to put it mildly.

Deloraine visit
I'M A volunteer and home boarder for Guide Dogs Tasmania.
Recently myself and Isaac, a black Labrador currently in my care, took off by bus to Deloraine.
The trip was a great training experience for Isaac.
What a beautiful town Deloraine is, extremely clean streets, smiles all round and not one vacant shop in sight.
Numerous people I spoke to couldn't get over how calm and well behaved Isaac was.
I explained several times to various groups of residents that all Tasmanian guide dogs are quiet, well behaved, non aggressive and completely clean.
Isaac won a lot of hearts in the town centre and received numerous pats (dog coat off of course), which he very much appreciated.
Thank you all to all the happy, friendly residents of Deloraine for making Isaac and myself feel very welcome.
Isaac and I will be back, you've won us.
Peter R Bomford, volunteer Guide Dogs Tasmania.
Consequences
ARTICLES by Bradley Perrett in The Examiner are mulling over the consequences of a possible war due to problems with Taiwan and China.
One such consequence is that many people and companies make a shed load of money, the economy receives a massive kick start, lots of jobs, seemingly win-win situation.
On the other hand the lasers are the dead, the dying, the maimed and their families.
Of course the government goes into massive debt, this has been the case in every major conflict which then takes decades to pay off, probably to the International Monetary Fund.
You and I are unable to help in this conflict as our government is busily disarming us with help from our police forces, using America and Port Arthur as justification.
Not sure if this will pass the pub test.
