McLeod, who moved from Brisbane to Deloraine earlier this year to be closer to family, was among the Tasmanian team which finished with five gold, six silver and eight bronze medals at the Australian championships held at the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre.
Selected to represent Australia at the 2019 World Age Championships in Japan but unable to compete due to illness, McLeod now trains twice a week in Launceston under the guidance of Pip Hedley and travels to Hobart every Friday for sessions with state team leader Ben Kelly.
The only Northern medallist in the Tasmanian team, McLeod won gold in the international under-17 men's double-mini and silvers in the individual trampoline and men's double-mini team event.
Despite attending many Australian championships for Queensland, these were his first national medals.
With four of Tasmania's five gold medals coming from the trampoline divisions, state coach Ben Kelly was thrilled given the COVID-19 restrictions and return to training issues.
"The results indicate the strength of trampoline in Tasmania despite the recent setbacks," he said.
Other gold medals came in the under-22 men's double-mini tramp, where Callum O'Sullivan achieved the highest qualification score of the entire junior competition, while Dylan Crack and Nick Kerr won the national level six category for double-mini and individual trampoline respectively.
Other medals were won by Matthew French (third, senior double-mini), Amber French (second, under-22 individual), Billy French (third, under-17 individual), Madison McCulloch (third, under-17 tumbling), Sam Leary (second, under-15 tumbling), and River Mallam (second, national level six individual).
The men's double-mini team won silver and the individual trampoline and tumbling teams bronze medals.
During week two of competition, the 14-strong Tasmanian artistic teams contested their first national event since 2019.
Ethan Loring won a silver medal in the level eight open division high bar and bronze in his floor routines, while Riley Finn won the pommel horse in the level seven open. They are Tasmania's first national podium finishers in four years and the state's first multiple men's medal winners.
State coach Lars Becker said this proves the future looks bright for men's artistic gymnastics in Tasmania.
In the women's artistic divisions, Claudia Sampson won bronze for uneven bars in the level eight open category while Chloe Sloan made the final round. Other finalists were Sarah Glancy and Charlotte Barnes (level nine) and Raph Corney (level 10).
Gymnastics Tasmania will now focus on the national clubs carnival being held in the same venue in July (women's artistic) and September (trampoline and men's artistic).
