Clinical executive director of statewide mental health services Adie Gibbons said works to upgrade the facility's alarm system and replace floor coverings were scheduled to begin on June 18.
"The unit will be closed during this period to ensure the safety of patients, staff and contractors," she said.
"Patients will either be managed within the community, utilising current ward staffing for additional community capacity, or at alternate units across the state.
"A number of beds at Spencer Clinic at the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie will be allocated to assist in accommodating patients who would usually be admitted to Northside for inpatient treatment."
Ms Gibbons said Northside staff members would either be deployed to Spencer Clinic or to the community to support clients who are able to be managed in a community setting with intensive case management.
"This has been communicated to staff," she said.
