The state government will today release its long-awaited draft LGH masterplan, aimed at mapping out the next phases of the hospital's future redevelopment.
Newly appointed Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff said it marked an important stage for the vital precinct, with the government committing $580 million over 10 years.
"This masterplan is designed for flexibility and takes into consideration that health services will change over time, as care models and service priorities evolve and as advancements in technology are made," he said.
"We must be responsive to the changing needs of the community we serve and to our workforce, with a constant focus on improving patient outcomes."
N OTHER NEWS:
Major developments outlined in the masterplan include a new mental health services precinct, a new tower on the existing Northside site, a new hospital entry and drop-off zone on Cleveland Street and an administrative and learning hub at 39 Frankland Street.
The plan comes after a leaked meeting paper from the Tasmania Health Service North Executive, obtained by The Examiner in February, laid out recommendations for the government in regards to the redevelopment.
Mr Rockliff said the "massive" injection into public health services would see up to 6960 direct and indirect jobs created over the life of the project.
"We committed to begin planning and consultation for the construction of the next stages of the LGH masterplan within our first 100 days in office, and we have hit the ground running to deliver better health care and secure Tasmanias future," he said.
