It comes after a coronavirus cluster in Melbourne swelled to 15 cases on Tuesday and new rules were introduced in Victoria around household gatherings and the mandatory wearing of masks indoors.
Public Health director Mark Veitch said Tasmanians who had been at the Collingwood vs. Port Adelaide game on the afternoon of Sunday, May 23 should contact public health authorities.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"So far we've had 40 people contact our Public Health Hotline to say that they were at the Collingwood vs. Port Adelaide game last Sunday night," Dr Veitch said.
He said it still wasn't clear where exactly the people who had contacted health authorities were sitting in the stadium. The confirmed case was seated in Zone 4 on Level 1 of the Great Southern Stand (at the Punt Road end of the stand).
"The contact tracing team is working through that," Dr Veitch said. "They will assess each of those people."
There were 23,415 fans at the game in total.
Premier Peter Gutwein said the Victorian outbreak was a stark reminder that people needed to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
"What's occurring in Victoria [is sending] that message loud and clear," he said.
The Tasmanian Health Department is urging anyone who attended the game at the MCG and who is now in Tasmania to monitor themselves for symptoms, especially in the coming few days, and if they develop cold or flu-like symptoms to self-isolate and contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.
Anyone who was seated in Zone 4, Level 1 of the Great Southern Stand - with a bay between M1 and M16 on their match ticket - should self-isolate immediately and contact the Public Health Hotline for advice.
The Whittlesea local government area in Melbourne has been declared high-risk by Public Health, meaning anyone who has been in that area since May 6 is not allowed to enter Tasmania unless they receive an essential traveller exemption.
