A crowd of 1393 Tassie netball fans flocked to the Silverdome for the first Super Netball match in the state in 18 months.
Shooter Shimona Nelson's long arms and quickness in the circle had the Magpies humming in the opening minutes of the match.
Meanwhile, the 'away team' had a bit of trouble finding the net early on, converting on 79 per cent of shots in the first quarter versus a Pies side that sunk every attempt.
However, the Firebirds quickly took the lead entering the second quarter, with centre Kimberley Ravaillion coordinating a handful of good attacks.

The Magpies, on the other hand, went cold on their end of the court, failing to score in the opening three minutes of the quarter.
Pies wing attack Kelsey Browne managed to catch the Firebirds off-guard, attacking from all angles in the goal third to give her scorers good looks and keep her side in the game.
Magpies coach Nicole Richardson said Browne's play the entire game was fantastic.
"We've been doing a lot of work with Kelsey in changing her move patterns a little bit ... I thought she was outstanding," she said.
The sides exchanged supershots (two points) in the final moments of the quarter, but the match was all tied up at the half. Browne's efficiency continued into the second half as she fed the ball effortlessly to Nelson.
The Pies tightened down their circle defence in the third as well, creating some much-needed turnovers which allowed them to retake the lead.
A pair of supershots from Magpies attacker Gabby Sinclair had her team entering the final term with a three-point lead.
I was super proud of what our girls put out, they were challenged today, they responded to the challenge and came away with a win

But the Firebirds weren't done yet, bringing back their second-quarter aggression on both ends to quickly take back the lead in the fourth.
The contest turned into a blow-by-blow bout as a gritty Nelson and Sinclair continued to put on their best to squeeze out a win.
"That's the brand of netball we want to put out week after week," Richardson said.
"To do that over Queensland in Launceston was just a great achievement - the game could've gone either way so it's a credit to both teams and the way they played.
"I was super proud of what our girls put out, they were challenged today, they responded to the challenge and came away with a win."
