Bringing together young women from across the state, competitors see it as a chance to work on self confidence, dress up and make new friends, while raising money for children's charity Variety.
The competition attracts a diverse range of people to participate - from Jess Stearnes, a disability worker, to Kelly Rogers and her passion for community service, Ebony Robertson and her love of animals and Annalise Monson - who's swapped the gumboots of her family's dairy farm for high heels for the occasion.
Jess Stearnes is in it for the experience.
"I've never really done anything like this before," she said.
"It's something to look back on later in life. I'm looking forward to the thrill of it, for dressing up and having a good time.
"I'm a disability support worker and a youth mentor, and I'm working to hopefully become a counsellor - I'm not fussed if I don't win, but ultimately I want to use this as a platform to support other people".
IN OTHER NEWS:
For Kelly Rogers, it's a way to build up her confidence and make new friends.
"I think it's really good to broaden your horizons, push yourself when you're nervous and challenge yourself," she said.
Hobart's Ebony Robertson has prior pageant experience - she purchased her dress from a friend.
She chose a red formal sparkly number that boosted her confidence.
"I normally go for bigger ballgowns, but I decided to go for something more fitting - it makes me really confident and I love the colour red, I thought why not go with something sparkly, it makes me feel really pretty," she said.
"There's an evening category so this is what I'm going to wear for that and there's cocktail as well".
Annalise Monson sees the competition as a way to have a platform to create change.
Coming from a dairy farming background, the administrator said she is looking forward to raising funds for Variety.
"They encourage us to raise money, so as part of that I'm taking on the challenge of that," she said.
"That's more why I entered - because I want to make a better change for Australia, for the world.
"I was originally a dairy farmer, milking cows, now I'm an administrator - so I've gone from gumboots to a computer to high heels, I like being able to show you can be from any background, no matter where you're from if you set your mind to something you can do it."
The preliminary final was held in October 2020, with the winner from the Tasmanian final to represent the state at the national Crowning Ceremony on the Gold Coast on July 9.
