"He is receiving treatment, people who may have well intended purposes in reaching out can sometimes complicate matters, I don't want to do that," he said.
"I do support him and want him to get good treatment and get through this difficult time in his life.
"We take people at face value, and we've taken and the Premier took Adam Brooks at his word and at face value that he was fit for office ... to be clear, we have a strong and robust [pre-selection] process and ultimately we take people at their word."
Mr Ferguson said that he, alongside the Premier, had no idea about the allegations against Mr Brooks until they were made public.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Ferguson said that he wished Mr Brooks well in his health challenges.
"People can recover from mental health challenges, and that has to be our overriding message and belief, that mental illness in and of itself can't be a blocker to people proceeding in their career ... in this particular circumstance it would appear there is an ongoing struggle.
"Owing to the fact that Mr Brooks is not a member of parliament, he has resigned officially and he is seeking treatment for his mental illness, and because it's going through a court process, that is the end of the matter as far as I'm concerned."
Mr Ferguson said he would not comment on the charges and allegations Mr Brooks is facing.
