The art deco style theatre, located at Invermay, opened in 1937 and spent over 30 years bringing joy to local audiences.
When it closed in 1969 many were heartbroken, but it was restored and reopened as a cinema in 2018.
Mr Lee-Archer said the owners were sad to move on.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The Star has been a massive part of our lives for the past few years and we are really proud to have brought this cultural icon back to life," he said.
"We feel that now is the right time to hand the baton on to new owners to take The Star on the next leg of its journey, and we will work on other projects."
Though the theatre closed last year for a period, business picked back up when it reopened and people were once again able to enjoy going to the cinema.
"Going out to the movies has endured as one of our most popular pastimes and the cinema is an integral part of the social and cultural fabric of a community," Mr Lee-Archer said.
"The Star brought back some of the romance of going to the movies and put the focus on the cinema as a social meeting place, not just a sterile box to sit and watch a film in."
Mr Lee-Archer said the team hoped to see The Star continue to thrive as an independent cinema.
"There are lots of options for new owners to expand in terms of more screens or live events."
The theatre has an existing development application permit to allow for further expansions including a micro-brewery, a second cinema and a commercial kitchen.
"We've had many people tell us that The Star is an asset to the Launceston community, both from a heritage perspective and also from a cultural perspective," Mr Lee-Archer said.
"Our aim was to create something amazing for Launceston as a way of giving back to the community that we love. We hope that The Star continues to do that for many years to come."
Expressions of interest are open for the sale of the cinema, and will close June 17.
