Needing a top-three finish in the final of the lightweight women's double scull at the selection regatta in Switzerland, Nesbitt and her NSW crewmate Sarah Pound crossed the line in sixth.
"A tough race for our tough lighties - we're so proud of you ladies," tweeted Rowing Australia.
In their heat, the Aussie pairing finished second to Ireland with Spain, United States, Poland, China, Switzerland, Denmark, and South Africa also progressing. In the semis, Nesbitt and Pound progressed behind winner Switzerland and Poland.
Nesbitt, 29, was a member of the lightweight four which won a silver medal at the 2017 world champs.
Huon clubmate Sarah Hawe and Tamar's Ciona Wilson are both hoping to compete in the women's eight in Tokyo.
