Chilly conditions were faced overnight - with some locations receiving temperatures as low as minus three.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Luke Johnston said parts of the state, predominantly about the western and central areas, received snowfall to around 500 metres.

"The north east didn't see much because it was fairly sheltered in terms of showers," he said.

"Temperature wise it was pretty cold - a few locations got to around minus three overnight and several places minus one - if you didn't get snow overnight last night it was still cold."

The cold front that brought the snow across the state has now crossed - the rest of Saturday will still see light snowfall into the west and western half of the central plateau.

With the forecast mostly sunny for the north east, Mr Johnston said today would be the perfect day to get out and explore the snow - as long as people adhere to safety warnings.

"There will still be some snow showers in areas of higher ground," he said.

"There'll be a bit more snow tomorrow, there's another cold front coming over the state tomorrow afternoon bringing more snowfall tomorrow night - mostly about the west, south and central areas down to around 700 metres, still reasonable snowfalls but not as low as we saw Friday night.

"The good thing is - the snow that fell overnight will remain cold, it'll last a fair amount of time, so if you're heading to somewhere like the Great Lakes there should be snow on the ground for a while as well."

A Tasmania Police spokesperson confirmed that there were no weather related jobs logged between 9.30pm Friday and 9.30am Saturday, reiterating the importance of keeping track of weather alerts if travelling to snow affected areas.
