After cruising to a 21-point lead, the Blues held off a second-half comeback from Old Scotch with Madison Shaw and coach Mikayla Binns finishing with two goals each.

"It was really exciting - we obviously had the pressure on us a bit and Old Scotch came at us quite well," Binns said.

"They probably had us rattled a little bit I suppose, but we bounced back from that and got a win.

"They were quite fit, moved the ball well and tackled really hard as well - we've been brought back to the NTFA standard so it was quite a good game and very similar to what TSL would be like, but probably just less skills and less movement."

Another big challenge awaits the Blues on Friday night as 2019 premier South Launceston, fresh from an 87-point win over Deloraine, plays host at Youngtown Oval.

The Blues appeared to find some new talent last week in Tassie Devil Maddie Brazendale and first-timer Emma White, but the latter will be one of nine outs, forcing Binns to field a bare-bones team.

"We're probably expecting the same [intensity as last week], if not a bit harder competition because South have obviously been quite dominant for the last couple of years."

GEORGE TOWN remains top of the table after a drawn game with Hillwood last round.

Coach David Marshall believes improved skills and game sense are behind his side's improved output from 2019 with a tough test - Scottsdale away - next on the calendar.

"We rate them as probably one of the top sides," Marshall said.

"So for us this week it'll be a learning curve, but at the same time our girls have been playing alright so it should be a really good test to see where we're at.

"We're just happy that the girls are going really well and building their confidence each week."

BRIDGENORTH will be the first-ever NTFAW side to play away at Deloraine following a morale-boosting win over Scottsdale.

Coach Bobby Beams was rapt with the efforts of his entire squad as the Parrots took revenge for last year's preliminary final result.

"We've got a lot of respect for Scottsdale, that was great to get the win and a really good performance," Beams said.

Emily McKinnell kicked three of the game's five goals with Gabrielle Phillips and ex-Pie Letitia Johnston the Parrots' best.

"She's obviously played a couple of years of State League and a bit of footy at Evandale before that, so she brings a lot of experience to to the team," Beams said of his gun forward.

"She can take contested marks, competes well and her finishing for goal was certainly pretty good Saturday."

OLD SCOTCH will head into Saturday's clash with Evandale as favourites after the young Eagles struggled against Old Launcestonians last round.

The Thistles were valiant against Launceston in the match of the round, giving coach Deb Reynolds plenty of cause for optimism moving forward.

"Our girls were very competitive which was very pleasing," Reynolds said.

"We're growing as a group very nicely - we have a vision in the sense of building a wonderful team culture that will take us beyond this season and we've shown that all pre-season.

"When I asked something from them on the weekend they stepped up and did it as a collective which was wonderful."

Elsewhere, Hillwood hosts Longford and Old Launcestonians and Meander Valley have the bye.
