North Launceston made it back-to-back wins either side of the bye at UTAS Stadium on Saturday with a 12.13 (85) to 7.12 (54) result over Kingborough.

Dominant in the first half, the Bombers could only manage to put 5.11 (41) on the scoreboard and Kingborough hit back, reducing the margin to 18 points.

But a steady final term that featured two goals from captain Jay Foon saw the Bombers to their third win in four games.

"It was a disappointing third quarter ... once again our goalkicking is hurting us," coach Brad Cox-Goodyer said.

"If we turn that into nine goals the margin is a lot bigger at half time and the game's probably over, so once again our goalkicking is keeping sides in games.

"They got on top and changed a few things in the third quarter and we just asked for a response from them [the players] physically - coming off the bye we were going to be a little bit tired, but we got the response we wanted in the fourth.

"It was a bit of a grind all day really, but you have to do that sometimes, you have to win ugly and we were able to do that."

It wasn't all ugly, however, with the second term producing a genuine goal of the year contender.

Receiving a handball from Nathan Pearce on defensive 50, Cox-Goodyer embarked on a 90m sprint, taking four bounces and wrongfooting Tigers star Elijah Reardon before unloading truly from outside 50 in trademark fashion.

"I felt 18 again running through the middle," the 28-year-old joked. "I had a bit of leg speed."

Bombers fans also had plenty to cheer with the performances of young trio Michael Stingel, Brandon Leary and Ryan Whitney.

Stingel was both clean and prolific at half-back while Leary backed up his four-goal debut at Lauderdale by hitting the scoreboard in each of the first three terms.

"Michael Stingel was really good again, he's growing as a player and does some really good things at times," Cox-Goodyer said.

"Same as Brandon Leary, he provides a lot of energy and speed but it was just a good team effort.

"They've been training really well over pre-season and they're not the only ones, Declen Chugg is still finding his feet and there's a lot of other guys that are only playing in their first five senior games.

"Hopefully we just get them going towards the end of the year when they're playing some really good footy."

In second spot after round six, North will travel to 2-3 Glenorchy next Saturday.

"If we can get to 4-2 after the first round of games it's really positive," Cox-Goodyer said.

"I would have been happy with 3-3 with the group we've got, but if we can get to 4-2 it really sets our year up."
