Holmes, who was a finalist in three categories, took out the Comment and Analysis award for his body of work.
The Examiner deputy editor Corey Martin said Holmes was a worthy recipient.
"Adam never shies away from a challenging story and his ability to analyse and dissect the important issues is a rare, but highly important talent."
The winners were announced at a cocktail event at Waterside Pavilion in Hobart on Friday evening, with the ABC's Annah Fromberg and Amber Wilson of The Mercury named dual winners of Journalist of the Year.
Brodie Weeding, of The Advocate, was also awarded best news image for his photo "Stranded".
MEAA Tasmania regional director Adam Portelli said the judges were extremely pleased with the quality of the entries.
