Zara Sully has taken over the role of director at Sawtooth ARI after predecessor, Liam James, moved on to another role.
Sully hails from Melbourne and brings with them a broad range of experience and love for ARI's.
"I've always had that pipe dream of moving to lutruwita/Tasmania," they said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I've always wanted to be here and I feel like sometimes life just works out, and I'm very excited to be here."
Sully said they wanted the gallery to be a space anyone could enter.
"Gallery spaces are something that people often deem daunting or terrifying, and I think I really want to open the space to more people and more community members from different walks of life."
Sully has admired Sawtooth from afar and is excited to showcase the gallery's next exhibit.
The new exhibit, soft, is a collection of works that celebrates gender, sexuality, and queerness.
"Liam scheduled these three textile shows to be concurrent with one another, and I have actually curated the one in the middle gallery," Sully said. "I'm a queer person and I'm always going to uplift my fellow queers and show our art."
Sully said they hoped the exhibition would challenge the idea that textiles were often seen as feminine and just a hobby.
Gallery A houses Clove Hitch, which shows work from Katy B Plummer, Hannah Gartside, Alice Lang, David Spooner, Molly Turner, and Amanda Wolf.
Gallery B is titled Yours Queerly and work from Benjamin Baker, Aaron Billings, Jay Davies, Lola-Mae Pink, Zara Sully and Brooke Van Der Linden can be viewed there.
Gallery C showcases work from Olly Read and is titled I Touch Myself.
The Space, located at the entry of Sawtooth ARI, will host Insight - work from Queer Artists Collective members.
The exhibition opens today at 6pm.
