Appearing in the Launceston Supreme Court for the first day of the trial on Tuesday, Mr Sadler pleaded not guilty to the alleged murder.
It was alleged Mr Anderson-Brettner was killed in Dion Crescent at Riverside on August 15, 2018.
Justice Robert Pearce told jury members some of the material in the trial could be confronting, and that the body of the victim was not intact when found.
A number of potential jurors were discharged because they knew witnesses.
The trial was expected to last three to four weeks.
