The consensus from the Bureau of Meteorology was that Tasmanians in the north east experienced a "drier" than usual April.

Senior research scientist at BOM, Dr Andrew Marshall said that the dryness would be as a result of the reduced rainfall experienced in April.

"April was drier than average across north eastern Tasmania and close to or above average elsewhere," he said.

"For the state overall, our rainfall was 18 per cent below average and the lowest for April since 2018."

When it comes to records tumbling, the weather seems to bring new ones each month. April saw the locations record their hottest April day on record across the Easter weekend.

Launceston weather station recorded the warmest days on average at 19.5 degrees while Flinders Island airport recorded the warmest night in April at 16.8 degrees on April 4.

"A warm spell for southern Australia over the Easter long weekend bought several Tasmanian sites their highest April temperatures," Dr Marshall said.

"Later in the month, a strong cold front crossed south eastern Australia leading to some record low temperatures in Tasmania ... record low temperatures were set at Devonport with half a degree recorded [on April 21]."

Dr Marshall said BOM expected to see a mixed bag of weather across the month and that had been proven by the data.

"We tend to get a mixed bag of weather during the Autumn months in Tasmania with some wetter and drier days and a mix of warmer and cooler days in there too and that was the kind of weather we saw," he said.
