When Togari's Beth Bailey started sketching and colouring away on her version of a Guinness World Record (GWR) book cover one weekend, she had no idea just how good her design was.
Beth is a Year 5 student at Forest Primary School, a little school made up of about 160 pupils.
IN OTHER NEWS:
She said her teacher, Katelyn Cramer, had told the class last term that there was a competition being run by GWR, asking students in the UK, Ireland, America, Canada and Australia to design their own version of the book.
"We got it on the Friday and then could do it over the weekend," she explained.
"I think it took about two hours."
It wasn't long after she submitted her work that Beth discovered she had been named the Australian winner, and that an award-winning artist would be drawing a picture of her climbing the world's largest sandcastle to feature on next year's cover.
"So mum got a message on Seesaw [a classroom app] and I looked at it and she was driving the car, and I went crazy," she laughed.
"It was the second last day of Term 2."
She said it made her feel "very weird" to know her face would be seen all over Australia.
Beth's teacher, Ms Cramer, said she had also been shocked to find out.
"I thought, well, we'd give it a go ... I didn't expect at all that she'd be picked, because it was all of Australia and New Zealand for us," she said.
"I'm really really proud."
Guinness World Records 2022 is due to hit the book stores later this year.
Beth will feature on books sold in the Australia/New Zealand region.
The UK/Ireland and US/Canada winners will feature on books sold in their respective regions.
