Six members of Grassroots Action Network Tasmania labelling themselves as "climate activists" kayaked to the Phoebe Star, which has a Tasmanian agent, and boarded the vessel in a peaceful protest to stop it from leaving.
"Although the Liberal government promises jobs for Tasmania and local communities, here we can see it is shipping these jobs off to foreign shores," one female protester said.
"In the face of an election we are here today to urge you to please vote for candidates, and vote for parties, who have the interests of the environment and our eco-systems, which are currently under major threat.
"Here we can see our native forests butchered, and thousands and thousands of logs shipped off."
On its Facebook page the group said it was doing this for workers and for the environment, calling on forestry workers to work with them.
"Together we can work together to create a brighter future," the group said.
"To start, we need to rid our society of corruption and foreign billionaire corporations. If you work in the forestry industry, we are ready to listen. We hope you are too."
